Right from the start The Boy Next Door is steamy. Leading man Bryce is shirtless and flirty, distracingly sexy and not afraid to pursue Laney from go.Laney is instantly affected (who wouldn't be? The man is yummy!) But she keeps up a mature wall between them, the age difference of eleven years causing her to question his sincerity and the appropriateness of the mutual attraction.
Bryce is nothing if not persistant. He begins a pursuet of Laney that had me yelling at my kindle; just do it Laney! For all the cougars in the land, grab him!
I connected instantly with our leading lady. I am the same age, I too suffered through an unfaithful marriage and in the end found true love with my own sexy leading man, though he is not younger than me, if he were I would have still fallen for him. It was wonderful to take the journey with mature and sexy Laney as she came into her own late in life. But not too late!
A successful business owner, a divorcee of three years from a man with questionable values, Greg, Laney begins to realise that with their daughter grown and off to college, their business about to sell giving her financial freedom, that although she has skipped past forty, her life and libido are fare from fizzled.
Bryce has had a crush on Laney since he was four and Laney used to babysit him. Now a grown man, he has returned to sell his grandparents house after the passing of his grandfather. Discovering his first crush still lives next door he is determined not to let their age difference or Laney's hesitation stand in the way of what he is sure could be a first love rediscovered.
I loved the humor, the very real characters and as always, the skilful writing of Ms. Powell. This is the third book I have read by this author and she has already become a favorite. I look forward to her next book and what fun and exciting characters she brings to life next!

I am not a huge fan of modern day romance novels, but I must say this one was good. It kept my interest from the first page to last. I would recommend to anyone wanting an easy, well written read.
But I loved this story. Being somewhat of a cougar myself, this was hot. Both my husband's were/are younger than me. I love younger men!
Laney used to babysit Bryce when he was four, twenty something years later they meet up again. Will they fall in love+
I am so glad that I took a chance on this book. It was sweet and hot at times. The chemistry between Laney and Bryce was great. I know this will be a book that i will read again. Great job!
What if the man of your dreams was a baby when you met him? How do you let go of preconceived notions and dive into love? What about the perfect guy who’s the right age with great blue eyes? This book is a great romance with killer sexual tension. I cheered for Laney the whole time.
I don’t usually read romance novels, but this one was recommended by a friend. The characters are well drawn and the story is fun and interesting. The ending was a bit of a surprise. It was not what I was expecting. The plot moves along nicely. The only problem I had with it was the main female character’s obsession with age. The age difference between her and one of the male characters doesn’t seem to be enough to cause so much angst. That said, there were places in the book where I sort of wished I was Laney. After all, having two gorgeous men after you would certainly inflate any woman’s ego. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes romance novels.
4.5 stars! Next door neighbors, babysitter and Brycie, 11 years apart in age I liked Laney and Bryce right away. She was a regular person to me with an ex-husband, a 20 year old daughter, and a fun friend named Greta. Bryce moves back in next door to help sell his parents' house and confesses that he has been waiting for his true love, Laney.
She is 41, and he is 30. He is mature and not a boy toy. I love that she also meets an attractive older man who is into her. And then her ex wants her back. Sometimes when I read books where there is an older heroine, it's as if she has only one option or only unattractive other options. Here she had two sexy options and a jealous ex. At the party with the mounting tensions, multiple dance partners, and her daughter's flirtation with Bryce... drama, drama, drama. There was the fallout from a very drunk Dee and accusations from Greg. Dates with Rex, fun with Greta, and Bryce doing his thing.
I liked that Laney took care of herself and was part of the success of Bodies, a gym. This gave her and the story depth for me. Her marriage had ended, but her life was beginning to be hers to shape, to enjoy, and to make new choices. I also liked that Laney was fairly independent and would be financially secure if the sale of the gyms went through. I have read quite a few books where the mature heroine either doesn't have much after a divorce; she doesn't have many skills; she uses inherited money to be independent, etc. Laney was smart and a major part of the business. She was also ready to redefine herself.
There were romantic and sexy scenes that I enjoyed in this story. The romantic scenes, the buildup made the sexy scenes that much more sexy. I like that there were kissing scenes, touching, and the seduction prior to the sex. It worked with who Laney was. Not just having jump right into sex had me anticipating when they would. It was worth the wait.
Note I originally read this from Unlimited, but I enjoyed it so much and it was on sale for 99 cents, so I 1-clicked it. It is my first from this author. I am looking forward to more.
